GETTING TO KNOW YOU AND THE VILLAGE

Hello everyone,
Hope you are well and fighting fit!
I understand that my mobile number was printed incorrectly so here is the correct one 07815795401, but please can I ask you all to only phone me with concerns or worries within the role of a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), as I am receiving phone calls about other issues.Paula Johnson - PCSO

You may ask what is the role of a PCSO, because I think there is some confusion especially regarding teen- agers, of the role and powers that we have compared with a regular Police Officer.
The role of PCSO is to provide a uniformed presence in specific areas with the aim of improving the quality of life of local people and to assist in making people feel safe, involved and reassured.
A PCSO will support Police Officers, Special Constables, Street Wardens and other accredited partners and community organisation to address anti-social behaviour, the fear of crime, environmental issues and other factors which affect the quality of people’s lives.

What are the powers of a PCSO in Derbyshire?

Power to:

• dispose of alcohol consumed in designated public place
• to enter premises to save life and limb
• to carry out PACE road checks and stop vehicles to do so
• to search vehicles under the Terrorism Act 2000
• to require name and address from suspects
• to require name and address from people acting in an anti-social manner
• to confiscate and dispose of alcohol from young persons
• to authorise removal
of abandoned vehicles
• to stop vehicles for emissions testing
• to stop cyclists to issue fixed penalty notices.

Power to issue Penalty Notice for Disorder for the
following:

• Wasting police time
• Use of public electronic communications to cause annoyance knowingly give false alarm to Fire and Rescue Authority
• Causing harassment alarm or distress
• Throwing fireworks
• Drunk and Disorderly
• Purchase alcohol in licensed premises by or for persons under 18
• Drunk in highway
• Trespassing on a railway
• Throwing stones at trains
• Consume alcohol in public place
• Persons under 18 buying or attempting to buy alcohol

Power to issue Fixed penalty Notices for:
• Fly posting
• Graffiti
• To parent for truancy -
• Cycling on footpath
• Dog fouling
• Litter

I hope that this has put people’s minds at rest and clarified my role in your community. (Meanwhile, please remember I can always do with a cuppa and a friendly chat.)

Congratulations are in order because your local beat officer PC Darren Heithus and his dear wife have just become parents for the first time, so you will not see him around for a while.
However a local beat officer and I will be holding a surgery located in the police van where you can pop along and have a chat about any concerns or worries you may have.
I will be advertising where and when soon, so please keep your eyes peeled, as the advertisement will be in the Duffield News window stating the time, date and where the van will be placed.

Take Care
