Duffield Parish Council Newsletter - Issue No.84 (AUGUST 2010)
WORK AT THE WESTON CENTRE
Following a successful bid fors106 funding, the Parish Council is now working with the Weston Centre Trustees and
Management Committee to complete refurbishment works in the centre which will include a new and extended kitchen,
modernized central room, and new flooring.
It is hoped that the work will result in more people being able to access the centre and the increased catering capacity
will enable a greater provision of service for users.
It is estimated that the work, which will cost almost £30,000 will be completed by 1st September 2010.
The Parish Office will be closed whilst the work is taking place.
STAY SAFE BY THE WATER
As the Summer holiday get into full swing, we would urge all users of Eyes Meadow and Grays Recreational ground to be
aware of river safety, and resist the temptation of talking a dip in what might appear to be cooling waters.
We would particularly urge young teenagers to resist the temptations of breaking into the gas pipe at Eyes Meadow
which crosses the River Derwent.
The River has dangerous under currents and has caught out even strong swimmers with its dense weeds. The Parish
Council have asked British Gas to look at the safety of their fencing around the pipe, and action to close off the pipe
has been agreed.
Any problems on this issue can be reported to British Gas on 0845 605 6677.
COUNCIL IN RECESS

DOG CONTROL ORDER AT GRAYS RECREATIONAL GROUND
Grays Recreational Ground is now the subject of a dog control order.
In the past dogs were restricted from entering the play area, but were allowed to run freely on the remainder of Grays
Recreational Ground. This is no longer the case.
Dogs are still banned from the childrens playground which is fenced, and now must be kept on a lead whilst on the
remainder of the site. As before owners should ensure that any fouling left by their animal is also cleared up and taken
home.
This order has been put in place to ensure children using the site can play safely and without interference. If you live in
the area and wish to exercise your dog this can still be done in the adjacent field. Dog wardens will be visiting the site
to ensure that the new restrictions are being adhered to.
NEW GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE
Following extensive clearance works at the Cemetery by the Community Payback Team to create a new Garden of
Remembrance, final works to make the whole area accessible have been given the go ahead by the Parish Council.
This work will include the removal a number of self set trees which currently overhang the boundary onto Hazelwood
Road.
There is concern about the safety of these trees over the longer term and their removal will allow the Parish Council to
plant indigenous trees suitable for the site. It will also benefit residents by increasing light to that area of the road and
opening up the view of the valley beyond.
Work to complete this final phase of the project is expected to start mid August.
