The farm shop in Wirksworth Road, near Duffield , will continue to raise money for the Shire Horse Society in recognition of the Shire horses that live in the fields around the store. But it will also support Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre – a charity that provides disadvantaged children in Derbyshire with holidays in Skegness . The charity provides 450 holiday places per season and needs to raise more than £150,000 a year to continue its work.RAISING £30.000 FOR CHARITY THE HARD WAYFormer Ecclesbourne School student Mike Needham has begun a series of staggering endurance trials - One Big Year - to raise £30,000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation.Over the course of 2012 Mike, now a Birmingham - b a s e d chartered surveyor, has already got the first of twelve trials out of the way - a Tough Guy challenge last month. He is now going on to take part in the ominously-named Hellrunner, Edinburgh Marathon, Three-Peak Challenge, Iron Man Wales and many more – including an English Channel pool swim and indoor rowing world records.HOW DO WE CELEBRATE THE QUEEN’S JUBILEE?The Council of Duffield Community Association met recently and a point of discussion was how Duffield should mark the Jubilee.A large event on Eyes Meadow was ruled out on cost and being at the mercy of the weather and also the suspicionthat many would take advantage of the double bank holiday and have a week away whilst only using three days fromtheir holiday entitlement Local street parties were favoured that could be easily re-arranged or moved indoors. It was agreed that bunting should be put up before the Jubilee and left up until after the Carnival.Shops and business will be encouraged to decorate their windows for a Jubilee Window competition. DerwentValley Wind Band is considering a Jubilee Concert. It was felt that something of a permanent nature should be erected in the village to mark the Jubilee and ideas from the Parish Plan include a finger sign post and a relief map of Duffield. If anyone has any other practical idea the Community Association would love to hear from you on 840098.Duffield Dynamo Football Club - the villages successful and ever-growing junior football club - is on the look-out for new recruits. But instead of players, this time its after adult volunteers who may be able to help with the running of the club .With more than 300 players aged from five to 18, its grown into one of the biggest junior outfits in the country. Its hoped that non-coaching parents, grandparents or football - interested adults could help with its administration.Possible roles include treasurer, which would suit someone with book-keeping or accountancy experience. The club also needs a number of league secretaries who act as a point of contact for the different local competitions that the sides compete in.
