The Associations current membership is made up of representatives from Duffield Cricket Club, Duffield Dynamos Football Club, Duffield and District Bowling Club and Duffield Parish Council. These are the founding members, and other clubs are expected to join the Association as time progresses, with many expressions of interest received already. The Association has enabled sports clubs and community groups to join together and formulate a plan for the future. The Pavilion will offer access to sport and recreational facilities to the whole community, irrespective of age or ability. The idea has been endorsed by Amber Valley who have recognised the “immense benefit” that such a facility would have on the community as a whole. Planning permission for the Pavilion has already been obtained, so has the car park, and plans for the all weather pitch are currently under way. If you would like to have a look at the architectural drawings of proposed new building these are currently in the noticeboard at the White Hart. The Duffield Community Sports Association will be keeping you informed of its progress and provide you with more information about the facility in the coming months. In next month’s edition we hope to publish detailed drawings showing what the Pavilion will look like and some more details of a mammoth project which will radically change and upgrade facilities for a widening availability of sports in the village which will enable positive progress and coaching for the younger generation and, hopefully, even better standards to capitalise on the improved conditions in which sports will be played. RUNNING BACK TO HIS SWISS HOME FOR CHARITY Our local Swiss resident, Gérard Varin often known for his reluctance to wear trousers (ever) and for his participation in village events – Christmas tree lights, carnival flags, etc - is pursuing yet another fund-raising adventure. Knowing more than six ladies in the village who have contracted breast cancer in recent years, he plans to help combat this terrible disease. Gérard is going to do his bit for ‘Breast Cancer Campaign’ by running from his home in Duffield to his home village of Seleute, situated in North West Switzerland. More details in this months copy of Duffield Scene. THE GREAT SHAVE OFF November saw facial hair springing up all over Duffield in support of ‘Movember’, the charity which is raising awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer. In the past year 37,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed. Six local men, Nigel Williams, Tago Taylor, Nigel Gyte , Gérard Varin, Nigel Spencer and Steve Kennedy grew moustaches then took part in “The Great Shave Off !” where their wives shaved them off in the Pattenmakers. They have raised a total of £655 between them. Well Done guys! If you wish to donate contact The Patten Makers. CHARITY PLANS FOR THE YEAR Croots Farm Shop is to support Derbyshire children’s charity for 2012 - one of two charities it will back during this year. The farm shop in Wirksworth Road, near Duffield , will continue to raise money for the Shire Horse Society in recognition of the Shire horses that live in the fields around the store. But it will also support Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre – a charity that provides disadvantaged children in Derbyshire with holidays in Skegness . The charity provides 450 holiday places per season and needs to raise more than £150,000 a year to continue its work. RAISING £30.000 FOR CHARITY THE HARD WAY Former Ecclesbourne School student Mike Needham has begun a series of staggering endurance trials - One Big Year - to raise £30,000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation. Over the course of 2012 Mike, now a Birmingham - b a s e d chartered surveyor, has already got the first of twelve trials out of the way - a Tough Guy challenge last month. He is now going on to take part in the ominously-named Hellrunner, Edinburgh Marathon, Three-Peak Challenge, Iron Man Wales and many more – including an English Channel pool swim and indoor rowing world records. The Council of Duffield Community Association met recently and a point of discussion was how Duffield should mark the Jubilee. A large event on Eyes Meadow was ruled out on cost and being at the mercy of the weather and also the suspicion that many would take advantage of the double bank holiday and have a week away whilst only using three days from their holiday entitlement Local street parties were favoured that could be easily re-arranged or moved indoors. It was agreed that bunting should be put up before the Jubilee and left up until after the Carnival. Shops and business will be encouraged to decorate their windows for a Jubilee Window competition. Derwent Valley Wind Band is considering a Jubilee Concert. It was felt that something of a permanent nature should be erected in the village to mark the Jubilee and ideas from the Parish Plan include a finger sign post and a relief map of Duffield. If anyone has any other practical idea the Community Association would love to hear from you on 840098. Article written by Derek Cook- DCA Duffield Dynamo Football Club - the villages successful and ever-growing junior football club - is on the look- out for new recruits. But instead of players, this time its after adult volunteers who may be able to help with the running of the club . With more than 300 players aged from five to 18, its grown into one of the biggest junior outfits in the country. Its hoped that non-coaching parents, grandparents or football - interested adults could help with its administration. Possible roles include treasurer, which would suit someone with book-keeping or accountancy experience. The club also needs a number of league secretaries who act as a point of contact for the different local competitions that the sides compete in. A club spokesman said : “In many ways,  we are a victim of our own success. The club has be come so popular that its turned into a massive going concern. “So big in fact, that we really could do with some help, as the existing coaches already give up much of their free time to run the football side of things.” Results on the pitch have seen several sides remain in the hunt for silverware this season. The Under 12s Saturday team recently recorded their biggest ever win – 20 - 0. That victory saw them catch up on goal difference with their closest rivals for the U1 2 Division Two title. The U9  Pumas, U11 Harriers, U1 2 Saturday Div. 2 an d U16  Saturday Div. 2 sides all currently lie second in  their leagues.
