WAYSIDE ANTIQUES TO CLOSE AT END OF JULY
It is with regret that Wayside Antiques will be closing at the end of July, which is largely due to the sudden
death of my wife Jeanette on May 8th. She was well known and respected by a large number of people.
The shop opened in July 1976 with £500 worth of stock and lots of potted plants. It was started as a hobby
for Jeanette as I had a full time job with Rolls Royce and it soon developed into a flourishing business.
Jeanette had a good eye for buying and was a good salesperson, I did the bookkeeping and the odd job. I
would like to thank all those who have supported us by buying over the years or just visiting for a chat. We
met a lot of very interesting people and made many good friends. Once again thank you for all the happy
times we have enjoyed at Wayside. Brian Harding
Wayside Antiques achieved 33 years in business this month and people came from all over the country,
during that time as a reputation for fine furniture and antiques spread thanks to the contacts built up
particularly in the south of the country.
Brian and Jeanette had two children, John, who is a solicitor in London and Claire, a former air hostess who
has two children, Katie (25) and Oliver (20).
Brian, a keen golfer and member of Chevin Golf Club is to stay in the residence.
ALBERT HALL TRIUMPH FOR VISION DANCE SCHOOL STUDENTS
They are back in training now, getting ready for their next big project, but still buzzing about the day they
performed to an audience of more than 4,000 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The 46 girls who represented the Vision Dance School in a show called ‘Stars in the Round' got rave reviews
and teacher Sandra Knight was delighted with their performance.
in a production created by Mardi Gras. The production attracted large and prestigious dance schools from all
over the country. The dance troupe selected from pupils at Vision Dance School, Duffield performed a routine
choreographed by one of the dance teachers (Lauren Knight) to a Janet Jackson track “Rhythm Nation”.
The standard and professionalism of the dancers at Vision was equal to the best of the other dance schools
from around the country.
Overall a spectacular event enjoyed by all those involved and one which Vision hopes to repeat next year.
Vision Dance would like to thank all parents, helpers, guardians and contributors involved and for the support
given to the girls during the day.
Vision Dance School principal, Sandra Knight said it was great to hear so many supporters spread around the
huge auditorium of the Royal Albert Hall.
Vision Dance School will be performing a mini-show at the Awards Evening in November and a full show is
scheduled for October/November next year.
The venue is yet to be decided but efforts are being directed at the Derby Playhouse if agreement can be
reached with the new management there. Congratulations girls, you did Duffield proud.
Premier League star Rory Delap threw himself into the action at Duffield Dynamo Football Club’s recent
Family Fun Day.
The former Derby County and current Stoke City midfielder showed off his famous long throw action
during a fund-raising throw-in competition. Unsurprisingly, he achieved the furthest distance - and his sons
Liam and Finn both proved to be chips off the old block by coming top in their age groups.
Liam (six), who plays for Duffield Dynamo Under 6s, also helped his team-mates to beat their fathers in a
“Lads versus Dads” match.
The Fun Day, at Duffield Meadows School, featured games between all of the club’s age groups against their
respective coaches and parents.
Entertainment included bouncy castles, pony rides, penalty competitions and a coconut shy, as well as a bar
Any boys and girls, who are aged 5 to 18 and interested in joining the club, can contact team officials
Any parent of a current Reception age child who is interested in running the new Under 6 group from
September (when their child becomes Year 1), please contact Simon Hare on 01332 843707.
