The email from Web-Police-Warning.com reads as follows:
Hi there,
I write to you in the hope that you are the proud owner of http://www.duffieldderbyshire.co.uk and responsible for updating the http://www.duffieldderbyshire.co.uk/scams.htm page.
I notice on the page that
you quote the International Web Police/ InterGOV International. I'm not sure
if you are aware or not but this organisation is run by an individual and is
not officially recognized by any official agency that can be traced.
A letter to the NHTCU National High-Tech Crime Unit (Andy Letherby)
www.nhtcu.org in the UK might clear upo any illusions you may of had of
the International Web Police's supposed official capacity.
The Web Police site makes many claims of official recognition and endorsement
by official agencies.
We have written to many of them and have yet to find one that recognises any
of their outlandish claims.
These pseudo official agencies have been seriously misleading the public for
many years and do not have any Police powers, are mainly staffed by children,
incompetents and even convicted criminals as background checks are never performed.
There are no genuine Police Officers in their organisations as claimed and the
individual Bill Howes from Canada is their chief investigator.
He has had no training and from seeing his investigation work also has very
little clue what he is doing. You can find out many facts about these agencies
at http://consumer.net/intergovfaq.asp
and by visiting http://www.web-police-warning.com, a site dedicated to exposing
their antics.
The State of Florida sent them a letter recently detailing impersonation of
Police Officers, displaying Police Badges, misleading the public and not carrying
a disclaimer.
You will find scans of the letter on the http://www.web-police-warning.com
site.
Two of their ex sponsors are also considering legal action against them because
the Web Police refuse to remove links to them listing them as sponsors. These
sponsors do not wish their corporate images to be tainted by the activities
of the Web Police.
We ask that you kindly
read the above material, consider removing your link to these agencies and not
mislead the public into thinking that they are able to help them. We also ask
that you might consider instead warning them about the Web Police instead.
The NHTCU already does this by referring people who ask about the Web Police
to the above resource in an attempt to educate them on the dangers of giving
out personal details to people like the Web Police.
If you read the articles about criminal records of staff members and the sorry
state of affairs in their organization you may share the same concerns that
they are in fact a danger to the public and should not be further promoted or
encouraged to mislead people.
Some checking with large Police departments might also help clarify that nobody
recognizes them and that their credibility and reputation is very poor to say
the least.
Best Wishes
Webmaster
